The 2017 model year will bring the Brio-based compact SUV. Even though the carmaker hasn’t published anything yet, the car is said to be revealed by the beginning of the next year. It is based on the Brio platform and borrows some of the forget-me-not styling cues of the XS-1 Concept. The carmaker has already imported this model as the 2SJ for testing purposes and therefore, we believe that the production version will be showcased sometime in 2016. It will be powered by the same engine as its siblings, the Mobilio, the City, and the next-gen Jazz. The 2017 Honda Brio SUV will face with rather tough competition, including the Renault Duster, the Ford EcoSport, and the Hyundai ix25. Will the forward-thinking design, powerful and fuel efficient engines, and refined interior be enough to outshine its bitter enemies? It has all the advantages to become very popular and desirable in its niche.
2017 Honda Brio SUV Exterior
The 2017 Honda Brio SUV will take inspiration from the magnificent XS-1 concept, but you should immediately forget about the wheel-to-wheel doors and large wheels, because the Brio will have none of these. More precisely, it will be toned down version of the concept borrowing only some of its styling cues. There will also be some of the CR-V’s styling elements. More details will be announced closer to its release.
Interior design of 2017 Honda Brio SUV
Even though rumors and whispers have been circulating for a long time, actual details about the 2017 Honda Brio SUV haven’t been revealed. Since the vehicle shares its platform with the Brio hatchback, we believe that the cabin will be the same as the cabin of the Mobilio and the Amaze. They are also underpinned by the same platform and we expect the same amount of space and similar features to be found in the Brio-based SUV. The carmaker keeps details under wraps but we are eagerly waiting to hear more.
Brio SUV Engine
The only thing that has been confirmed is that the compact SUV will be motivated by the same engines as the Mobilio and the Amaze. The base engine option for the newcomer will be a 1.5-litre i-DTEC diesel engine. If you opt for this engine, you will get 99 bhp and 200 Nm of torque. The second engine option is a petrol engine, and it comes in the form of a 1.5-litre unit with power output of 117 bhp and 145 Nm of torque. Some trusted sites reported that Honda will offer the third engine as well. They obviously want to stay competitive and offer its customers a wide range of options. A 1.2-litre i-VTEC engine should also be in the books. Expect two transmission options, a 5-speed automatic and CVT unit. Even though details about fuel economy ratings haven’t been published, we believe that this seven-seater will be economical-to-run model.
Release date of new Honda Brio SUV
Since we’ve already stepped into 2016, we believe that the Honda Brio SUV will hit the dealership in early 2017. However, Honda can surprise us at any time, so be prepared for anything.
