The Acura RLX arrived as an ancestor to the RL which, you must admit, desperately needed a replacement. The first generation of the RLX stretched its wheels in 2013 and since then it competes in the mid-size luxury segment as a bold, safe, and powerful model. Yet, many people consider its front-wheel-drive system as a sort of shortcoming, but it seems that 2017 Acura RLX will bring exactly what customers have been looking for all this time -the SH-AWD system for the RLX Sport Hybrid. More refined interior and refreshed exterior are also expected. The RLX has always been one of the safest, the most reliable, capable, and elegant luxury sedans in business and the 2017 model won’t change any of these qualities. Let’s check what’s new.
Exterior of 2017 Acura RLX
Design-wise, the vehicle hasn’t changed much. Many people consider the Acura RLX plain and ordinary, but design is always subjective. We personally think that the 2017 Acura RLX is really elegant and attractive, but it might be because we are fond of this tried-and-trusted design. Exaggerating is not really our thing. The overall weight of the vehicle has been considerably reduced thanks to the lightweight materials. The front fascia is decorated with 10 LED lighting elements. The carmaker announced that the LED elements will improve visibility for the driver. The grille has also been redesigned, but the iconic beak is still present. When we compare the RLX to its predecessor RL, the newcomer is 2 inches wider, which means that it will be slightly roomier over the RL. It rides on 19-inch wheels.
2017 Acura RLX Interior
The cabin of the 2017 Acura RLX is where you will see the true craftsmanship and magic. The cabin is absolutely stunning and lives up to the luxury-car norm. Everything is flawless and there is nothing to complain about. The most interesting things which draw the attention are the dual-screen information system, top-notch materials, and some other thoughtful touches. The RLX is comfortable and modern. Naturally, it is quite spacious. If you decide to spend even the least on the RLX, you will get a wide range of gizmos and decently equipped cabin. Standards are: an audio system with 10 speakers, tri-zone climate control, rearview camera, a navigation system, moonroof, 12-way power adjustable and heated front seats, and many others.
Engine of new 2017 RLX Acura
Since the current generation employs the 3.5-liter V-6 engine which puts the power down to the front wheels, which is a potential turn-off for many customers, the carmaker decided to introduce some changes. The standard engine for the 2017 RLX is the same 3.5-liter V6 engine with power output of 310 horses and 272 lb-ft of torque and front-wheel-drive system. The engine is teamed up with a 6-speed automatic transmission and promises fuel economy of 21 mpg city and 31 mpg highway. New and optional for the 2017 model year is a combo of the same gasoline V-6 engine and 3 electric motors. The 377-horsepower combo is coupled to a 7-speed dual clutch transmission. It is rated at 28 mpg city and 32 mpg highway.
