It seems that the officials from Cadillac Company have, finally, decided to get serious and perceive in full the trouble (we are, deliberately, choose to avoid using the more appropriate term), which they have, all of a sudden, found themselves in with the launching the previous generation of the Cadillac ELR.
They are trying, pretty hard, to repair it and at the same time to, in a way, make up for mistakes they’ve made in the past, and due to that fact, they offer the latest model by more than the favorable conditions. These “favorable conditions” are a whopping $10,000 price slash, more potent hybrid-plug in engine option, more stylish interior equipped with much better high-technology features and much improved general handling. We shall see if these “popular measures” will have as a direct result boosting in the general sales, because the previous ELR was actually dead in terms of sales. We keep our fingers crossed and keep hoping for the best! In the meanwhile, let’s see how newly made 2016 Cadillac ELR looks like.
Interior, Exterior & Appearance of 2016 Cadillac ELR
It is planned that the 2016 Cadillac ELR remains a two-door plug-in hybrid coupe, with seating room enough to accommodate four passengers. It will come in just a single trim level. So, the standard features that will come along in every newly made ELR are going to be: 20-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights with automatic high-beam control, adaptive suspension dampers. Rearview camera will be available only in pair with front and rear parking sensors, heated mirrors and keyless ignition (entry and remote one).
When it comes to the available hi-tech and the other pretty notable (helpful) feature, among the heap of them, the most striking ones are the following few: dual-zone automatic climate control, folding rear seats, full leather upholstery, an 8-inch touchscreen display with the CUE (Cadillac User Experience) interface coupled with voice controls, a power tilt-and-telescoping and heated steering wheel, a 10-speaker Bose sound system with satellite radio, the inevitable Bluetooth phone and audio connectivity, a USB interface and an auxiliary audio jack.
Besides all that gear, every ELR’s interior comes with a masterfully crafted dashboard and fully redesigned doors, which are, now, draped with multi-layered amalgamations made of a natural leather and simulated suede. These luxury features provide for the entire vehicle an additional dose of a charm and attractiveness. Also, pretty notable is that now, the main cabin is spaced just enough to accommodate up to four adults of the average size, to sit quite comfortably all along the way by providing just enough space for all their body parts.
2016 Cadillac ELR Engine
In order to convince us that they have realized their mistakes- they have offered somehow more potent powertrain option. So, now, one can find under the hood the all new, the front-wheel-drive, Cadillac ELR an electric motor that generates around a 157 horsepower and delivers approximate a 295 pound-feet of torque. That particular electric motor works empowered with a 17.1-kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery pack (which strength is estimated at 83-hp), while a 1.4-liter four-cylinder gasoline-fueled engine runs the main motor.
Newly made Cadillac ELR will be available for driving in the Normal, Hold, Sport and Mountain, which have been designed in order to boost to its very maximum the motor’s general performances, as well as the efficiency in different situations.
Release Date & Prices of 2016 ELR Cadillac
New 2016 Cadillac ELR already had its debut at this year’s Los Angeles Auto Show. Its general sale should start this very summer. Although the price was lowered by a staggering $ 10 000 (now comes at around $ 75.995), it’s still very high. And, unfortunately, it is highly unlikely that this particular vehicle will be competitive with American best-selling and quite charming Chevrolet Volt plug-in hybrid model and/or with other stunning performances upcoming models like the Tesla Model S and BMW i3.
