Because it is getting old, one of the best selling crossovers on the European market will be getting an update with the 2017 Nissan X-Trail. The current generation was first released back in 2013 and while the exterior, interior and platform were all new, the car’s engines have been carried over from the older model so it is quite slow by today’s standards. The biggest changes on the new model are going to be under the hood but the car’s exterior or interior are not going to remain unchanged. In fact, a couple of months ago a Rogue has been spied testing in the United States with light camouflage on it.

This is a very important piece of information because the Rogue is the US version of the X-Trail and it seems that the changes on those model are going to be carried over to the European version as well. This means that the car will receive a new front end which is finally going to depart from the rather dull look in the favor of something a bit more interesting with a redesigned V-Motion grille, a new set of headlights with LED daytime running lights, a more aggressive bumper and likely a new hood. In order to keep its passengers happy and the car in line with the rest of its rivals, the new X-Trail will be offering a more modern dashboard with an easier to read instrument cluster and much better materials on all surfaces.

The colors available for the car’s exterior will be updated as well and it should receive all new designs for its wheels which were dated ever since it was launched a while ago. The back will not remain unchanged either but here the updates will be kept to a minimum, especially since the model spied testing was only wearing camouflage over the tail lights and bumper which means that there will be minimal changes. In Europe, the price of the new 2017 Nissan X-Trail will be kept on the same level with that of the current model but in the US the car might become around $500 more expensive due to the addition of a new engine.

This engine will also be used on the European model and it will finally replace the current 2 liter naturally aspirated inline 4 which is old, not that efficient or smooth. The new car is expected to make use of Renault’s new 1.2 liter turbocharged inline 4 mill which could develop with ease as much as the old 2 liter unit at 143 horsepower. A more powerful model sporting a 1.6 liter turbocharged mill might also be launched at a later date in certain markets to replace the old 2.5 liter unit. This will be able to develop up to 205 horsepower and over 200 lb-ft of torque, enough to make the 2017 Nissan X-Trail just as competitive as some of its German counterparts. Front wheel drive is still going to be standard and its 6 speed manual will remain unchanged but the automatic will see a major bump with a new 6 speed unit.
