Since is was originally released back in 1982, Nissan managed to sell more than 5 million units of their Sentra, their best selling model. While it is not the most fun to drive car out there or even the best looking, the Sentra manages to offer a good compromise between everything, so it is usually bought by people wanting to get a reliable and easy to drive car with good fuel economy. Their latest model is no different but this is about to change with the upcoming 2017 Nissan Sentra. This new model will not bring that many changes to the regular car which has been updated for the 2016 model year but it will bring on the market an entirely new trim level.

Price, Release date and Competition of 2017 Nissan Sentra

For anyone that loves cars, the Nismo name is saying a lot and it seems that the Sentra is the next car to get it after the Juke, 370Z and the GT-R. Just like with these three models, the Nismo version of the Sentra will be the high performance model with a more capable chassis and a lot of improvements inside and out. At this point there aren’t that many details available but it seems that the car will most likely be release by the end of 2017 and the price will be around $35,000, a lot for a Sentra but in line with pretty much all of its future competitors.

This means that the Sentra will now be aimed at the Focus RS and the Golf R, two of the most fun to drive and fastest cars in their class. In order to become successful and overcome the rather high price tag, the 2017 Nissan Sentra will have to be very good. Well, the good news is that Nissan is planning this model ever since they released the 2013 concept, so they had plenty of time in sorting out all the issues.

2017 Nissan Sentra Engine

For starters, the Nismo Sentra is likely not going to be a front wheel drive model but instead Nissan will install a four wheel drive system derived from that of the Qashqai. This means that the car will be able to send more than 40% of the torque to the rear wheels and it should be able to handle more than 300 horsepower with ease. The engine that will live under its hood will likely be a new generation 2 liter turbocharged unit which is also available in some Infiniti cars. This could easily be able to offer up to 300 horsepower and 300 lb-ft of torque, enough to get a light car such as the Sentra to 60 MPH in less than 5 seconds. The transmission of choice is still unknown but Nissan might install a manual in order to get an edge over all of its automatic competitors.

With all these upgrades under the hood, the 2017 Nissan Sentra will also feature an updated exterior with a more aggressive body kit which will also add downforce at high speed, a new exhaust system to allow the engine to breathe easier as well as larger alloy wheels wrapped in high performance tires. Inside the cabin the car will likely feature bucket seats as well as all the usual equipment found in a top of the line Sentra model.
