The ongoing model of the Nissan Frontier has been around ever since 2004 and since then it didn’t really receive any updates to its styling or engines, so basically the ongoing truck is more than a decade old so there is really no surprise that it is one of the worst selling compact trucks on the US market. Now that they finally updated their Titan with the xD model, the Frontier will be the next in line and not too long ago a model has been spied which could actually be the production 2017 Nissan Frontier. Unlike some of its main competitors, the Frontier will not be specifically designed or vastly modified for the US market so the actual production version that will hit the US shores might be nearly identical with the ongoing Navara, a truck which has been completely redesigned a couple of years back.

Exterior and Interior Design Of New 2017 Nissan Frontier

Probably the one part of the truck we all know by now will be the exterior which is very likely going to be nearly identical to the current Navara. The front grille might be redesigned in order to integrate Nissan’s V-Motion grille but the headlights, paint options, wheels and even trim levels should be very similar to the International Navara which is still a very handsome and very well equipped truck. We only hope that the US market model will receive a special trim level, similar to the Titan Warrior, that will integrate off-road specific items such as more capable shocks and springs, beefier tires and even lockable differentials, all needed to compete in this very tough market.

Unlike the Navara though, the interior of the 2017 Nissan Frontier is likely going to be somewhat different in order to better fit the US market. Here we expect better seats with more adjusting options, a more comprehensive infotainment system as well as more storage spaces, all needed to make a successful truck.

The ongoing version of the Frontier is only available with a diesel engine in two different outputs and in certain markets the slightly older engines are still available. It is safe to assume that the model intended for the US market will get the new generation diesel as an option which would be really interesting considering that Nissan just recently breached the diesel market with their xD. On top of that, the 2017 Nissan Frontier is expected to feature two different petrol engines. The one designed for fleet use will be a rather old 2.5 liter naturally aspirated inline 4 design that will provide the reliability and fuel consumption needed for a truck in that specified market.

However, the one intended for privateer use will likely be offered with two new engines, a 2 liter turbocharged inline 4 mill with around 210 horsepower and more than 240 lb-ft of torque as well as an all new 3 liter twin-turbocharged V6, engine which has been in development by Infiniti. The latter is expected to be offered only in the lesser tune with 300 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque, still more than enough to pose a problem to the Colorado and its close sibling. The base trucks will get a 6 speed manual gearbox and rear wheel drive but a four wheel drive system as well as a new automatic gearbox are going to be available for those requesting them.

2017 Nissan Frontier Price and Release date

The new version of the Frontier is going to have nothing in common with the older model and that’s great because Nissan had to do something about that old chassis. The new model will still be a body on frame truck but the chassis will be up to 150% stiffer thanks to the use of high strength steel and a fully boxed frame. On top of that, the body will get high strength steel panels and some aluminum inserts, so the total weight of the truck will go down by around 200 to 300 pounds, more than enough to make an impact on its performance and actual towing capabilities. In order to become successful, Nissan will likely be releasing the new truck by the mid of 2017 and the price should not get past $20,000 for a base model while a fleet-intended truck will likely be kept around $17,000 with a unique engine and a much more basic interior.
