The Escape is one of Ford’s best selling cars in the World thanks to the sheer amount of space it offers inside its cabin, powerful yet efficient engines and modern styling. Being one of their newer cars out there which received a major update back in the mid of 2015, we did not expect a new update for it. However, Ford took everyone by surprise when they showcased the 2017 Ford Escape a while ago, a car which still looks nearly identical to the 2016 model but which comes with a lot more equipment and also a few new trim levels, all meant to make it an easier to customize car that should now satisfy most of its customers.

Price and Release date of 2017 Ford Escape

While it still is not available for sale, the new Escape has been unveiled and it is available to customize on their website, meaning that the buyer will be able to make its own personal car and even pay for it. After that, Ford will start shipping the already paid cars in the next couple of months and for a couple of months after the official release, a special edition model is expected to be offered. The base price before any taxes currently sits under $24,000 which is a small improvement over the previous model. Also for the first time ever Ford is offering a new appearance package which will be priced for around $1,500, package which is meant to bring the Edge styling closer to the smaller Escape.

2017 Ford Escape Engine and Transmission

Just like with the previous model, the 2017 Ford Escape is still being offered with three different engines but this time around only the most basic unit is the same as before. The 2.5 liter naturally aspirated inline 4 unit is still available only on the most basic model and it will most likely be bought only be fleets as it only offers 168 horsepower and little over 170 lb-ft of torque.

The biggest upgrade are the two EcoBoost units which are both brand new despite the fact the larger might seem identical at first. The old 1.6 liter unit has been replaced by a smaller 1.5 liter EcoBoost inline 4 which is now capable of 180 horsepower and 185 lb-ft of torque having the added benefit of a small fuel consumption improvement over the older unit. Also, the 2 liter EcoBoost inline 4 is new as well and this time around it makes up to 245 horsepower and 275 lb-ft of torque, basically being the same unit as that in the Edge. Front wheel drive is still standard and just like before, the great all wheel drive system is only available with the turbocharged engines.

Probably the biggest disappointment of this model is the fact that the old 6 speed automatic gearbox hasn’t changed in a while and despite the fact it is quite smooth, it is not nearly as fast or as responsive as some of its direct competitors which is a shame.

Interior and Exterior Design of new 2017 Escape Ford

We previously mentioned about the new appearance package which will be available on the 2017 Ford Escape from launch. This new package will be the “Sport Appearance Package” and it will include quite a few goodies that will surely make the car more impressive to look at. Firstly, instead of the usual chrome, the car will receive gloss black inserts, a new gloss black grille with a new pattern, different headlights with black surroundings, matte black alloy wheels and even black mirrors. There are going to be a couple of different colors available which will provide a really nice contrast with the black accents and the car is said to be a limited production run only.

This package is not only going to change the exterior but it will also bring a few nice features inside the cabin as well. For the top end versions which already come with the Sync 3 infotainment unit, the package will upgrade that to Ford’s latest Sync Connect, basically making the 2017 Ford Escape the first car to use this new system. This will allow the driver to use its phone to connect with the car’s system and start the engine, use the climate control or even use the phone as a remote for the car. The system will also give the driver notifications about future service visits and even about the oil level inside the engine.
