The QX80 is one of the most interesting full size SUVs because it offers a very nice exterior design, an impressive interior as well as one of the most rugged chassis in its class with a classic body-on-frame design and an all steel construction which makes it weigh more than three tons. Even though it does not sound that great, the QX80 feels and drives great and thanks to its clever air suspension which can predict bumps, the ride quality is better than most of its competitors which is not an easy feat to achieve, especially in this class. The 2015 model has just been launched with quite a few updates and the 2016 Infiniti QX80 is not that far away either.

Engine of 2016 Infiniti QX80

Just as we mentioned, under the hood of the upcoming 2016 Infiniti QX80 there should be a new engine to replace the old V8. There have been quite a few rumors and it seems that this time, the massive beast is going to receive a V6 rather than a V8. The most probable one to come on the QX80 would be a 3.8 liter twin-turbocharged V6 derived from the engine of the Nissan GT-R. This time though, this would make around 420 horsepower and up to 450 lb-ft of torque which is a nice bump over the current V8. The engine would also be capable of offering a better fuel consumption thanks to its turbos and it should be quite a bit more responsive as well. It would be mated to a very similar 7 speed automatic to that of the current QX80 and it should be available both as a rear or all wheel drive model. The engine would likely improve the fuel consumption to around 17 MPG in the city from the current 14 while on the highway it should be capable to get over 24 MPG with ease.

The weight of the new model is also likely going to go down by quite a bit margin thanks to the use of aluminum and composites in certain key areas of its body and frame. The design on the other hand is expected to be carried over pretty much unchanged over the newly released 2015 model. The only real updates would be in the front of the car which should get new headlights that will ditch the HID installation in the favor of a fully LED lit unit. New wheel designs could also be offered on the new model but for now it seems that the only changes will happen in the front of the car.

2016 QX80 Interior

Inside the cabin of the 2016 Infiniti QX80 things should remain quite similar to the current model. In fact, the only notable change is likely going to be a new navigation and infotainment unit which will replace the current one. This will be now compatible with both Apple’s CarPlay and Google’s Android Auto mirroring technologies which will allow the driver to pair its phone and use it as the car’s navigation and infotainment system which could prove especially useful for people that need to stay connected at all times.

2016 Infiniti QX80 Price and Release date

The new model is expected to be first released to the public at the end of 2015 and it should be ready for sale by the mid of 2016. Unlike what most people thought, it is not going to be an all new model but rather another refresh of the car which was originally launched back in 2004. This update should bring a new engine to the range, especially now when the current 5.6 liter V8 is one of the most inefficient engines in its class. The price will likely remain unchanged meaning that the base model of the new QX80 will cost around $64,000 which is still well under its competitors.
