Another long awaited debut on Geneva Motor Show was 2016 Ford Focus RS. The Ford’s 3rd generation of Focus super hatch has been anticipated for some time and it seems that Ford has managed to meet the expectations. Powered by 2.3-liter EcoBoost turbo engine with 316 horse powers and a four wheel drive, new Focus RS is a no holds barred attempt at the demanding super hatch market. Despite being a high performance car, Ford managed to keep new Focus RS quite affordable, continuing the policy of its predecessors. With several novelty features, like a drift function, Ford Focus RS 2016 is seen as the best buy by many experts.

2016 Ford Focus RS specs

The new Ford Focus RS 2016 shares its engine with the new Mustang. But unlike Mustang, Focus will have larger turbo unit, with better airflow and larger intercooler, delivering 316 horsepower to all 4 wheels. Raj Nair, Ford’s vice president for global vehicle development, stated that the CO2 emission will be improved 20% compared to the previous Focus RS model, but didn’t want to disclose any details on fuel economy, saying only that it will also be improved. This means that 2016 Ford Focus RS should do at least 35 mpg.

2016 Ford Focus RS transmission

2016 Ford Focus RS comes with a 6-speed manual transmission and all-wheel drive, to better control the power output of its engine. It features Dynamic Torque Vectoring Control, which can split the power between the axles and enabling a new drift function, where the car shifts 70% of the power to the rear wheels. That power can be directed to either of the wheels, allowing for some spectacular drifts, while still keeping you safe. Ford says that the car can pull more than 1G in sharp corners, helped with a stiff suspension, which can be changed for everyday use on regular roads.

2016 Ford Focus RS redesign

The car, although not drastically deviating from a regular Focus, still looks very aggressive. Unlike the previous RS models, who had wide body chassis taken from rally cars, for new Focus RS that wasn’t an option. Ford even kept all five doors, making the car more accessible to general public. The new front fascia with huge RS logo on it paired with large air inlets on the bottom looks excellent and with huge spoiler on the back still manages to sufficiently distinguish the RS model. The Ford Focus RS 2016 sits on 19 inch wheels, with large 235 tires.

Interior features Recaro sport seats in the front and several additions, like a new gauge cluster on the central console, positioned high on the dash for better visibility. SYNC connectivity should come as a standard option, together with an 8 inch touch screen.

Ford Focus RS 2016 price and release date

Still no details on price or precise release date, it is expected that the first Ford Focus RS 2016 should reach customers in early 2016. The expected price for the standard package is around $35,000, a bit higher than the previous model, but still in the affordable range. This price tag puts the new 2016 Ford Focus RS in same room with its competition, such as 2015 Volkswagen Golf R that offers less power and it is able to deliver only 50% of torque to its rear wheels.
