The 2016 Chevy Volt is a sign that Chevrolet is moving on to sportier designs. With its big back end and flat sides, the first generation car was not taken seriously, but with the new styling for the 2016 model, that has changed. The improvements are significant, now the new Chevy Volt 2016 looks sportier the interior is redesigned and the addition of a fifth seat and the new touchscreen, goes past the plain refreshment. Exterior of the new Chevy Volt 2016 is now designed into a flowing, more dynamic shape, with a more muscular front and rear end, nicely carved body sides and a sculpted hood. The headlights are bigger, while the main grille is slimmer, while the reshaped front bumper incorporates a massive apron grille and vertical LED units. The new Volt also receives active grille shutters for improved aerodynamics and efficiency. In the back, the car has the same liftback hatch design, but less boxy, thanks to the redesigned taillights, bumper and tailgate. There are seven different 2016 Chevy Volt colors: Heather Gray Metallic, Iridescent Pearl Tricoat, Kinetic Blue Metallic, Mosaic Black Metallic, Silver Ice Metallic, Siren Red Tintcoat and Summit White.

The styling of the Volt’s interior feels more modern and functional, with better-placed controls and a reduced center-stack configuration. The 8-inch reconfigurable instrument cluster is inherited, but the graphics are all-new and a lot more data is displayed now. A second 8-inch touchscreen is placed above the center stack, providing the access to the Chevrolet MyLink system. The elements like the dashboard, the door panels, the center console, and the seats have all been revised and are more refined than before, highlighted with metallic trim on the dashboard and center console. Furthermore, for the first time, the 2016 Chevy Volt can now accommodate up to 5 people, and the rear compartment also comes with a slight increase in legroom. As far as the technology is concerned, the car will come with a GPS location-based charging feature, rear-vision camera and lot more safety features, such as: lane keep assist and lane departure warning, rear cross traffic alert, side blind zone alert and lane change alert, front automatic braking, as well as advanced park assist with front and rear park assist.

The new 2-motor drive unit is 12-percent more efficient and 100 pounds less in weight than the previous one. The battery pack is also smaller compared with the previous generation, and now has 192 cells instead of 288. When it comes to power, the battery-fueled motors generate 150 horsepower and 294 lb-ft of torque. When the battery is depleted, the 1.5-liter petrol engine, capable of delivering 100 horsepower, kicks in to generate electricity for the electric motor, which gives fuel economy rated at 41 mpg combined. The new Chevy Volt 2016 has reasonable performance and it takes 2.6 seconds to accelerate from 0-60 mph.

The price of the new Chevrolet Volt 2016 will start around $37,000 US dollars, and it is expected to go on sale at the end of this year. The 2016 Chevy Volt main competitors will be Nissan Leaf, Toyota Prius and Ford C-Max Energi.
